The Merovingians

Despite the likeness of their name to the wonderful meringue (!), the Merovingians were a royal dynasty of the French monarchy. They ruled from around 428-751. Including monarchs such as "Chlodio the Longhair," "Clothar the Old," "Clovis I," "Dagobert I," and  "Clovis II, the Lazy." I wonder how many times he didn't do the dishes before he got that epithet! I am also yet to watch this lecture from Open Yale Courses, but it certainly looks interesting. It discusses the Carolingians, the dynasty which overthrew the Merovingians and bore Charlemagne (or as I like to call him, Chuck.)

And now, bring forth the meringues!
